Dear The Internet,
I would like the following things this Christmas:
1. For everyone who writes e-mail to learn how to use smilies. I'm not a huge fan or anything, but they come in seriously handy sometimes. It would just make my life easier.
2. For Facebook to give us a damn dislike button already. They've been changing and updating over and over again and they still haven't given the users the one thing they really want. People on the internet LOVE to be negative...look at FML or TFLN! If I had a dislike button, I would be SO happy.
3. Fos spam regarding "meeting 50+ singles/see pictures of 'active seniors' " and "meet hairy men now" to CEASE. Seriously. That shit is annoying. What list says I'm a senior citizen or that I would have a particular interest in hairy men?? What is this I don't even
----
Also, the semester was a success. Christmas is proving to be a bitch again. Annnnnd I love the shit out of this movie.

| This journal further devolves into commentary on The Bravery |
[06 Nov 2009|08:06pm] |
I don't... it's not a BAD video, but it's not all that good either. If this is the best song on the album will I still buy it? Yes. If this is the best song on the album will it stand any chance that I love it the way I love the first one? Nooooo. "Slow Poison" did get stuck in my head randomly a few days ago even though I hadn't been listening to it recently and that might be a good sign. However, I saw them perform it on Conan the other night and I was not impressed (also, I think Sam was wearing the same striped shirt, just a note). I know from personal experience that I DO enjoy them live, so it's not that I feel they don't translate, I'm just not sure the song does. I worry that this is the single. Off to listen to preview tracks on iTunes and then back to textbooks and papers...

Facebook status updates don't work for me because they seem to constantly encourage people to say dumb shit. So here are three I would have posted, but didn't because LJ people aren't annoying (or my sister)...
I thought my laptop had died today, but he's fine.
OH AIDAN YOU ARE A BEAUTIFUL COMPUTER AND I LOVE YOU NEVER LEAVE ME AGAIN!
I'm getting an external HD for Christmas!

"An Honest Mistake" -The Bravery |
] |
Because it's the middle of the night. And if I read anymore textbooks I will fall asleep and I want to get more of this paper thought up first. SO, I'm using LJ to stay awake. Oh god, I will just make a list.
A) Hello new LJ friends from Gryffindor!
B) I saw Chang for probably the last time Friday because we had to move parking to the fairgrounds due to the football game. Which is WEIRD. (Chang is this rollercoaster that was record breaking when it was built, and now they are taking it down to send to anoter Six Flags in order to make room for waterpark expansion.) I've actually never been on it, I'm not big on rollercoasters, but it's still really weird that it's leaving because I so clearly remember it going up and it being this huge deal. I think about that and it seems like "oh that was just few years back..." except that I was...7. Which is safely more than a few years ago. Weeeeeeeird.

C) The Bravery's new song, not the single, the one with the video is called "Hatefuck." And I hate it. Seriously. I hate it. It's very disappointing. I can't even watch the whole damn video it's so CREEPY and it's not like it's a song with a creepyass video...it's an appropriately creepy video for a song with really creepy lyrics. So, even if I could like the music itself, I probably can't get past the lyrics. Someone suggested it was the product of a lost bet or just a bid for attention. I don't know though. Dirt directed it :\ This plus the album title...I am sitting here wondering where the fuck they are going and I am afraid XD WOE! ~personal investment in bands~ You know who would never pull this shit? Your Vegas! Yeah, I said it. I mean, I liked their second effort well enough, but not in the lasting way I love the first album and it's after 3AM... I refuse to link to "Hatefuck," you can go find it on your own if you just have to know, Charlie. Have some of their old school genius...can't embed it, fuck:
An Honest Mistake Fearless
D) I DO, however, like their single Slow Poison. Perhaps the album will still be great. I'll buy it either way.

Theme songs are seriously great. I have just gone through about 15 of them. Didn't remember the theme to Clarissa Explains It All being THAT bad.
...don't even get me started on the Nicktoons. I want to change my major to 1990s Nickelodeon.

| Remembering MJ |
[03 Jul 2009|07:37pm] |
Be sick of hearing about him if you want to be. Warning: This post is mostly about Michael Jackson.
I can't claim to be a huge lifelong fan. A) I was born in 1989. B) I really wasn't a Michael Jackson fan until about 3 1/2 years ago. However, I've seen all these comments and stories from people about Michael and how he was a part of their lives. And you know, international icons dies, maybe the custody of his children doesn't need to be the top story on every news station a week later, but his death is a big deal for the world. And this is Livejournal, so...my turn.
I was turned into a Michael Jackson fan by my friend, Spock. He became completely obsessed with Michael's music during the first year I knew him and got me hooked too. Given that this friend is one of the best people I've ever met, anything attached to him brings up a lot of good memories. For one, "Billie Jean" is the background to the first video footage I had of him and that was kind of a big deal...getting this silly dance video as a surprise. No, I'm not allowed to show you, he'd KILL me. In some ways, MJ will always make me think of Spock. :)
Another memory is earlier than that. There was this video tape a neighbor had that was Alvin and the Chipmunks inserted into music videos. We watched it all the goddamn time. I'm not sure why. Looking back, it was kind of shitty, but we were like 6 so WHATEVER. We always had to watch as far as the MJ part though, always. It was generally agreed that it was the best part of the tape. P.S. Look, Will Smith is in it too! (I'm a 90s child, okay? <3 Will Smith!)
When I was 12, I took a weekend roadtrip to Chicago with my sister and former brother-in-law. It was a pretty great weekend despite the presence of said former brother-in-law and it's actually the setting for some of my very favorite stories. One of the smaller stories that comes out of that weekend is one from the drive there. I don't remember HOW it came up, but my sister was talking about Michael Jackson and her huge childhood crush on him. She had a giant Thriller poster on her wall that she used to kiss goodnight. I like this story because it's such confirmation for me that my sister was always crazy :P It's just kind of a strange glimpse into the life of a child I didn't have the chance to know because of our age differences and it makes me laugh thinking about it. (Ultimately, I'm the bigger fan though. She ripped my entire MJ collection to her computer)
My freshman year of college, I lived in a house with friends....and way too many of their friends. Sometimes it was fun, sometimes it sucked. I remember one particular Saturday, I woke up to find sleeping people all over the floor yet again. I was in a bad mood and just fed up with it all. I decided the best way to react was to turn my CD player all the way up and put "Beat It" on repeat. I have no idea if it woke anyone up, let alone convinced anyone to go home, but it made me feel better to do it and much less trapped in my room. Seeing the footage from his last rehearsal, it's just such a shame. The tour could have been great.

It's really too bad he doesn't get to hear all the awesome things being said about him right. The internet slowed the fuck down over this...it was incredible. God, I can't believe it. So awful.
Thanks for everything, MJ.

Alright. I feel like I can't post anything at all without getting this one done. I guess it kind of works out that I waited so long, because I don't want anyone to think I'm looking for attention. I just want to...say a few words about a really fantastic dog.

Your result for The Sorting Hat Test...
GryffindorYou scored 42% Order/Chaos, and 72% Moral/Rational
Chaotic Morality. You're not much for rules and itinerary, but you make up for it because you'd never twist the regulations for anything morally questionable. Your strength lies in your noble intentions and willingness to stand up for right; your weakness is in the fact that you may screw yourself over when you jump the gun or ignore rules that are there for a good reason. You join such souls as Harry Potter, Neville Longbottom, and the Weasleys. The 4-grid I used to determine this is as follows:
| |
Chaotic |
Orderly |
| Moral |
Gryffindor |
Hufflepuff |
| Rational |
Slytherin |
Ravenclaw |
